Hypospadias

Hypospadias is a relatively rare congenital disorder of penis where the urinary opening is on the underside instead of the tip. The phallus may also be curved depending on the extent of the deformity. The patient is not able to pass urine in standing position and urine will get sprayed. It may not be possible to have proper sexual intercourse in later years. It can also affect fertility.

The deformity requires surgical correction. The recommended time frame for this treatment is between 18 months to 24 months of age.

Different surgical procedures are available depending on the extent of severity of the penile curvature and the location of the meatus.

A meatus located on the glans (but not on the tip) may be repaired for cosmetic reasons only.
