Liposuction

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that improves body contours through fat suction. It can be used to remove fat deposits from the chest, hips, thighs, buttocks, arms or neck to provide better shape. However, this is not a treatment for weight reduction. It is actually a body contouring operation.

Treatment Stages

  • Provision of General or Local Anaesthesia.
  • Apparatus – Through small punctures suction cannulae are inserted in the subcutaneous tissues and with a back-and-forth movement the fat deposits are removed with a suction device. Suction can be provided by syringes, VASER, or another high suction device. The puncture wounds are hardly noticeable.

Very large volumes are generally not removed because it leads to blood and fluid loss which needs replacement. Postoperatively pressure garments are prescribed for about 3 months.
