Dimple Creation Surgery

The indentations that occur on the cheeks when some people smile are called dimples. Most commonly, they are found on the bottoms of the cheeks. There may also be chin dimples in some individuals. Everyone is not born with this facial feature. Dimples naturally arise in certain individuals from indentations in the dermis caused by deeper facial muscles. Regardless of their causes, dimples are regarded by some cultures as a sign of beauty, good luck, and even fortune.

A Dimple-plasty is the procedure used on the cheeks to develop dimples.

Treatment

In an outpatient procedure carried out under local anaesthesia. It is carried out in the minor operating room. A tiny cut ( about 3mm)  is made in the buccal mucosa of the cheek ( from inside the mouth) and a small amount of muscle and fat is removed. A suture is used to fix the cheek dermis to the buccal mucosa to create the dimple. The same is repeated on the opposite side. The procedure takes about 15 min for each side.

Recovery Timeline

Recovery is reasonably straightforward after this procedure. In fact, immediately after the surgery you can usually go home. You might experience mild swelling soon after the procedure and cold packs can be applied for a day to minimize it.
